NAS Pensacola Complex - Hurricane Sally Recovery Repairs
Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Southeast selected our team for this design-build effort to support critical infrastructure recovery damage from Hurricane Sally. The project encompassed the Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola, Corry Station, and the Federal Bureau of Prisons facility at the former Saufley Airfield.
Launched in 2023 and currently ongoing, the project addresses widespread damage from Hurricane Sally in September 2020. The storm severely impacted sidewalks, storm sewer systems, open drainage channels, roadside ditches, and adjacent site elements. This effort is aimed at restoring the safety, functionality, and resilience of these essential federal facilities.
To meet NAVFAC Southeast¡¯s needs, we developed targeted, cost-effective solutions that reduced environmental and community impacts. These included designing stormwater drainage systems to enhance flow efficiency while reducing disruption to surrounding areas and adapting plans based on findings from gopher tortoise and historic property surveys. Close coordination with regulatory agencies helped streamline permitting processes, while site-specific mitigation measures support long-term ecological protection.
Beyond restoring infrastructure, the project is improving daily operations and safety for military and federal personnel as well as the broader community. Enhanced stormwater management reduces flooding risks and accessible pedestrian infrastructure improves site connectivity.
