C?te d¡¯Ivoire Energy Transition Support

Committed to meeting their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement, C?te d'Ivoire is targeting a 20 percent reduction in energy use in buildings and industry along with the addition of over one gigawatt of renewable capacity by 2030. To further these goals, they are working with GiZ, co-financed by the EU and Germany, to strengthen the policies, capacities, and financial instruments driving this transition. GiZ engaged our team to assist with the implementation of three complementary assignments as part of their Programme de D¨¦veloppement du March¨¦ et de Promotion de l¡¯Emploi dans les ?nergies Renouvelables et l¡¯Efficacit¨¦ ?nerg¨¦tique (ProFERE II).

One involves strengthening energy management capacities by supporting the Direction G¨¦n¨¦rale de l¡¯?nergie (DGE). We¡¯re helping operationalize energy-efficiency committees in public administrations and train personnel on ISO 50001 energy-management standards. We¡¯re also developing a national photovoltaic quality and compliance system. This involves assisting the Direction des ?nergies Renouvelables et de la Bio¨¦nergie (DERBE) in establishing standards, inspection mechanisms, and training for a reliable solar market. Additionally, our team is mobilizing climate finance for renewable energy and energy efficiency. We¡¯re working with the DGE to prepare bankable project proposals to access international climate funds.

Through these efforts C?te d'Ivoire can better meet international climate targets and stimulate sustainable economic growth and green job creation.
