Kakadu National Park Ranger Station Compound Upgrades

Kakadu National Park is one of Australia¡¯s largest national parks and is dual World Heritage-listed. To support the vital work of Ranger teams, we were engaged by the Director of National Parks (DNP) to upgrade critical infrastructure across key ranger stations at Jim Jim, South Alligator, and Park Headquarters in Jabiru.

Following successful collaboration, our scope was extended to include East Alligator where we previously provided design and documentation for replacement facilities and technical support during construction and Mary River Ranger Station.

Through site inspections and in-depth consultation with park rangers, we developed tailored concept designs to meet each station¡¯s operational needs. Proposed upgrades included pavement renewal, compound fencing and gate replacements, electrical and lighting enhancements and new area lighting. At South Alligator, new visitor accommodation and an ablution/laundry block were introduced. Mary River gained new visitor parking bays. All stations benefited from new sheds and covered areas to expand working accommodation.

Our role progressed to the provision of design and construction documentation for tender, following further stakeholder engagement led by the DNP project manager.

Once completed, these upgrades will significantly improve the safety, comfort, and efficiency of daily operations for rangers, enabling them to better protect and manage the park¡¯s unique natural and cultural heritage. The addition of visitor amenities will also enhance the experience for tourists, fostering deeper community engagement and supporting sustainable tourism in the region.
