Michael is a senior wildlife biologist with over 25 years of experience. Working as a principal and the technical discipline leader for Ecology in Canada, he¡¯s focused on helping clients with impact assessments, field studies, monitoring programs, mitigation, restoration, and offset planning.
While Michael¡¯s work primarily involves birds and caribou, he has experience with bat, bear, moose, and amphibian habitats. Michael has led the development of several digital apps for real-time data collection. These include onLOOKer, which gives fixed-radius point count surveys for birds; BirdIT, used to manage surveys and mitigation for bird nests; and RAMMT, a reptile and amphibian mitigation monitoring tool. He is currently supporting the development of an artificial intelligence tool for processing images collected from remote cameras.
Michael has authored or co-authored more than 250 papers and reports and given more than 60 lectures and workshops. He¡¯s also provided consultation on wildlife and habitats to government and industry in Canada and served as an expert witness.?
